GenXer here. I believe I have spotted a bug in our system and have prepared a patch to fix it. Sorry it took so long. Someone just had to notice the pattern, identify the problem, and follow the breadcrumbs to the answer.

The Pattern

In every civilization, every government, every nation, there comes a point where the government or society becomes so overgrown, so fossilized, so byzantine in its bureaucracy that it must collapse under its own weight unless drastic steps are taken.

It happened in Rome twice. First time they got the Twelve Tables and the second time Justinian gave them the Codex.

Rome rebooted. We froze.

The Problem

Any system, no matter its foundations, will eventually build up so much weight as it grows that it must be reboot or rebuilt.

This law applies to machines. It applies to computer programs.

And it applies to government.

America, we need a reboot.

The Proposal

We need to pass an amendment to the Constitution that states the following:

All federal laws, bureaucracies, regulations, rules, judicial rulings, treaties, agreements, alliances outside of the Constitution and the current amendments are hereby declared null and void.

Previous Treaties shall be binding only in the cessation of hostilities.

No judicial rulings prior to this amendment have any binding precedence. They may be consulted only for guidance but are no longer the law of the land.

All previous laws must be rewritten completely in English that is comprehensible to the average person with a current day eighth grade reading level.

All future bills proposed in either chamber of Congress must be focused on a single issue with a title that accurately reflects the bill’s purpose.

In recognition that such periodic Constitutional maintenance is necessary for the continued function of the Republic, this clearing of all federal business shall and must occur every centennial with the next scheduled system’s maintenance being in the year 2176 AD.

This amendment shall and must go into effect six months following ratification or by the next July 4, whichever is later.

The Explanation

Yeah, this will hurt. But it is necessary that we wipe the whole slate clean, go back to the core document: the Constitution and the Twenty Seven Amendments, and rebuild from there.

Everyone’s sacred ox gets gored. No rollbacks to laws filled with spaghetti code is allowed. No lobbyists get to write laws using legalese that screws everyone else over.

No corporations as persons. No Pentagon boondoggles. No Social Security. No NATO or UN. No federal regulations that work for Texas but give California nightmares. It’s all chucked out.

But that doesn’t mean Congress can’t find a spine, work together, and rebuild clean laws to re-establish the programs that they think are popular and necessary.

I will explain why this benefits everyone, whether in a red state, a blue state, a purple state, or a state that is a strange shade of yellow green. I will show you how your state wins.
